[Videos] MSF echoes humanitarian disaster in Nigeria's Borno State

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) have reiterated their calls for intervention with respect to the humanitarian crisis affecting Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno.

The group presented video testimonies of two women who lamented about living under very poor conditions despite needing crucial health support for their ailing children.

Both women related how they had to walk for miles from their respectives homes in order to access the facilities of MSF whiles adding that they were not sure of which means they were going to return home after seeking medical attention.

The first video is of Husseina, who said her husband was killed by Boko Haram. She was living alone without support and was finding it difficult to support herself and her ailing daughter.

Fatima, on her part also spoke about how she fled Boko Haram insurgents. She walked for hours to the hospital and complained of hunger and thirst. Aside her ailing daughter who was responding to treatment, she had three children at home who could hardly eat because of acute poverty.

According to MSF, there were almost half a million people displaced in Borno State, all of whom were in urgent need of food, water and shelter. They reiterated claims that for almost a year, some towns and villages in the State have been cut off from the world.

MSF has been in Borno State since May 2014. It supports two hospitals, two clinics and two other clinics in the camps where displaced people can seek medical attention for free.

In 2015, MSF said it provided more than 116,300 medical consultations, conducted 1,330 deliveries and supported over 6,000 malnourished children.
